Day 15: Mike Miller

Day 15: Mike Miller, Founder of Delilah’s & Co-founder of Bottom Lounge

“Though my days have certainly changed dramatically, I have always been someone who is constantly juggling multiple things at the same time.  I’ve set up a more representative home office to get ongoing paperwork done and go into at least one of the bars multiple times a week to work on some kind of project that needs attention. I have been able to spend more time with my family doing things that we rarely do - like take long walks in Jackson Park and read all of the inscriptions on the Statue Of The Republic.

Both Delilah’s and Bottom Lounge definitely fall into the pretty screwed list. Delilah’s is specifically a place for people to gather and have a shared experience in a relatively small space, so that won’t happen for a while and I’m not really pursuing an alternative way of doing that. At Bottom Lounge we have been open for food and beverage pickup and are looking at ways to offer people some slightly different eating, drinking and entertainment options once we start to reopen. Meanwhile, there’s always work to catch up on!

At home I have been doing plenty of cooking and entertaining! I’ve been playing with my records — which are extremely organized right now — catching up on some movies, sampling fine boozes, and making cocktails with the blender. I’ve also been spending quite a but of time talking with my mom and catching up with old friends - for a change I’m not quite in such a hurry!

The silver linings for me in all of this and in these things… I’ve spent more time with Salle & Vixen in our home than ever before. We’ve been making meals together and listening to all kinds of music that we haven’t looked at in years. And I’ve had longer conversations with friends and family that I would normally ever have the time for - even with Dave Dahl! There’s a big difference between being lonely and being alone.

Ultimately, I want all of my friends, family and coworkers to stay safe and healthy so we can all make it past this bump in our lives.  I hope we all learn from it and be just that much more happy and appreciative when our new normal becomes a little more normal.  Right now I think I need one of these fantastic beers!”
